We recently opened a rare breed pork butchery on site at North End Lane, Hightown where we can process our pigs and Herdwick sheep. We could not have opended the butchery without the help of a grant from the Rural Development Programme for England (RDPE) 2014 to 2020. The local contact is via Mersey Rural Leader Programme.

The programme is to support local rural development by helping them to expand and employ more people in rural areas and is funded by the European Union.

The grant helped us upgrade our electricity supply from single phase to three phase to run new machinery needed for the butchery and to save water by installing a water catchment tank from the roof of our glasshouse to catch rain water to irrigate our plants and to power hose down the pens for the pigs.

The funding for the butchery has increased our sales of meat and has had a knock on effect of increasing plant sales allowing us to employ more local people.
