Andrew formally created the business, Sunnyfields, at the age of 16 in his parents' back garden, before that he grew and sold plants from age 12 on a table at the front of the house with his sister Anna and grandpa Ron. Being the young entrepreneur that he is hanging baskets, planters and bird tables soon became renowned in the local area and his parents greenhouse too small!
In 2002 the opportunity came to rent a half acre field in North End Lane, Hightown and piece by piece Andrew and his family built the greenhouses that can be seen today.
In 2010 the business bought the site and an additional adjacent five acres of farm land, Andrew has continued building... there is now a shop on site and plans afoot to create a farm shop.
Anna has worked alongside her brother, Andrew, from the beginning, helping to create hanging baskets, build bird tables, build greenhouses etc.
Anna's enthusiasm, when not in a greenhouse, is for horses. She was, for many years, a carer of the horses at our local riding for disabled centre, in Little Crosby and hopes one day to own a horse of her own. She also looks after the sheep and pigs at Sunnyfields.
In 2007 Anna joined the business officially, having completed a Horticultural course at Myerscough College. Anna is now an integral part of the team, incharge of plant production and retail sales.
Jane, Andrew and Anna's mum keeps the greenhouse running smoothly by doing anything which is asked of her!
Jane will turn her hand to anything, whether it's dead heading, watering, washing trays, making sure there's cups of tea or even driving a four ton road roller to level our car park, but she does wish she had a little bit more time to spend in her own garden and vegetable patch!
Peter, Andrew and Anna's dad, is now retired from a thirty year professional career and has been drafted into the business by way of organising the paper work, taking the online orders, delivering orders and helping in the greenhouse when required.
Peter enjoys taking his motorbike out in his spare time and he also loves his rare breed pigs, which you should be able to meet when visiting the shop.
Meet the team behind Sunnyfields
Sunnyfields is a small family business owned by brother and sister Andrew and Anna Tumilty, helped by mum and dad, Jane and Peter and Andrew's wife Meg.
Meg, Andrew's wife, is the latest addition to the Tumilty family, she is a full time Farm Manager at a school farm in Rainford, she helps out at the greenhouse planting the plug plants and with customers in the shop, she also looks after all the animals with Anna and Peter.
Born in beautiful Northumberland, near to the Holy Island of Lindisfarne, she grew up on her family's rare breed pig farm; It was Meg who introduced us to the delights of caring for rare breed pigs and sheep. Meg can't resist a ride on the back of her farther in laws motorbike when he has time to take it out.
Peter's brother Mike is a new addition to the family team. Mike has responsibilities for looking after the livestock and helping Andrew and Anna in the greenhouse.
He will play a key role in helping to expand the business and get a butchery up and running on site.
The latest addition to the Tumilty family is Alfie.
We are all sure it wont be long until Andrew has him working in the greenhouse.
